Nutritionists: Your New Ally in Driving Consumer Choice

Marriott, Grand Salon F

Nutrition practitioners are on their way to becoming a core component of our healthcare system. We envision transforming the health of Americans through a healthcare system that promotes diverse providers practicing nutrition to the level of their training and giving consumers access to the practitioner of their choice.  An NBJ and NEXT / New Hope Network, 2016 Survey of Trustworthiness of the Supplement Industry, reveals that nutritionists are the most trusted source for this information, but there is work to be done to ensure nutritionists are empowered to support their patients and the industry. The complex regulatory environment for nutrition counseling impacts most integrative practitioners affecting the supplement and natural products industries. This presentation will explore the landscape of nutrition practitioners, so you can better understand the wide variety of such practitioners, and the legal/regulatory landscape for practitioners, so you understand the terrain in which they operate.  Attendees will benefit from hearing what is taking place across the nutrition profession and how and which healthcare providers are able to dispense medical nutrition therapies (eg supplementation and counseling), educating consumers on natural products and intervening with chronic disease through nutrition science.  Relevant New Hope Content How not to drive dietitians (gluten-free) bananas with health claims
