Jeff Zachwieja, PhD, is the Sr. Director Global R&D Nutrition Sciences. He leads the Nutrition Sciences team globally to 1) effectively deliver against PepsiCo’s human sustainability commitments; 2) execute research that builds foundational knowledge and that can be activated in market. Dr. Zachwieja has held various technical and leadership positions in PepsiCo working mostly in the Gatorade Sports Science Institute and the Global R&D organization. He was formerly with National Dairy Council overseeing Research, Scientific and Regulatory affairs. Dr. Zachwieja earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University, both in Physical Education. In 1991 he received a doctorate in human bioenergetics from Ball State University. From 1991–1994 he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He then served as assistant professor and chief of the Exercise and Nutrition Program at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Zachwieja has been awarded seven patents and is an author or co-author on more than 60 peer reviewed scientific publications and reviews.
