Andrew Gunther is Executive Director of A Greener World, home of America’s leading food labels, including Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW, Certified Grassfed by AGW and Certified Non-GMO by AGW. Since 2008 Andrew has spearheaded the unprecedented growth of AGW’s flagship certification, Animal Welfare Approved, and its distinction as the only “highly meaningful” food label for farm animal welfare, outdoor access and sustainability as designated by Consumer Reports. Andrew works to increase the availability of Animal Welfare Approved meat, dairy and eggs in traditional retail settings and recently led the launch of Certified Grassfed by AGW, the only label to guarantee 100% forage diet and high-welfare management, as well as Certified Non-GMO by AGW, the only non-genetically modified food label with a welfare component. Andrew is a member of the U.S. delegation for development of standards related to ISO/TC 034/WG 16.
Previously, Andrew was the senior global animal compassionate product procurement and development specialist for Whole Foods Market, leading the team that designed and launched the company's five-step welfare program in the United Kingdom. From a truly agricultural background, Andrew, with his wife and children, pioneered the world's first organic poultry hatchery for chickens. The Gunther family also managed the production and procurement for the largest independent organic chicken producer in the United Kingdom.
